Recap: Polish U18 Championships
Sebastian Walda – Phenomenal athlete with rare energy and intensity. He can throw down some powerful dunks in transition and also half court offense. Still struggles shooting wise with not the most typical and slow release but in my opinion it is slightly improved. He never had to shoot as he used to get to the rim at will in youth tournaments of 2000 category so there is a promise that Sebastian will become acceptable shooter.

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • elite athleticism for a European prospect. Huge vertical leap
  • muscular both upper and lower body
  • has a good slashing feel. Loves getting to the rim in transition and half court
  • has a finishing flair and very solid hangtime. Embraces the contact perfectly
  • notable rebounder for position
  • displays good defensive effort for someone who has been the main offensive option for years at youth level. Anticipation allows him to get into the passing lanes frequently. Can play lockdown defense when fully engaged

  • doesn’t really have a mid range game. Struggles to create shots off the dribble
  • not talented shooting wise. Mechanics looks poor. Even career FT% are not good enough
  • lacks skills in left hand
OUTLOOK
Walda’s father is a physioterapist in Trefl Sopot senior team. Sebastian is often compared to 1995 born Przemyslaw Zolnierewicz as Polish basketball has athletes like them just once a few years. He achieved a lot on youth level, plays with poise and good mentality. Improving shooting skills and utilizing outstanding energy is critical for his future development.
