Preview: Prospects in Pro Leagues - ABA
Next in line will probably be Marko Pecarski from FMP. He was dominant in youth competitions, one of the best and most dominant players whenever he showed up in any of the FIBA Youth competitions. But those stats and awards “won’t pay the bills.” He somehow struggles with adapting to the more physical game on senior level. Pecarski has a great offensive skill set, understands the game well and showed in some games last season that he can play. His main liability on senior level is his defensive game, where he gets punished too easily. With some improvements in his defensive game and adding more muscle to his frame, he should log more minutes and get a little bigger role in the team. Shouldn’t have so much freedom and minutes as those three prospects mentioned before but this could be the season when he becomes a bigger part of the rotation from coach Vladimir Jovanović.

Preview of Draft Prospects in Euroleague and Eurocup
Pecarski had stellar output in U18 European Championship winner Serbia, as no other frontcourt duo was more effective than him and Petrusev. Slightly being undersize is a hurdle to overcome in order to contribute in Eurocup, but his knowledge of the game and instincts are pretty much evident in every part of the game. Anyway he will be a valid option at 4-5 with his improved shooting. It is possible to see him play more than last season having Landale and Gagic in front of him.

Recap: Best prospects from Belgrade AdidasNGT
MARKO PECARSKI (2000, 6’10, CENTER, PARTIZAN) – It was 5th Adidas Next Generation Tournament for highly touted Serbian prospect and 4th different team. It’s obvious that it’s no longer his level of competition. With average effort and being barely recovered from the jet lag. Marko was doing his things and scored almost point per minute over the tourney. He has whole array of instincts helpful on basketball court that cannot really be teached or polished to the degree like in his case. He is super smart rebounder with perfect positioning, nose for the ball and high shoulders which extend his reach and make up for lack of great bounce. Offensively Marco is a pure talent. We could make an impressive compilation of his advanced footwork and difficult turnaround jumpers. His skillset allow to create separation and just find a way to score against players with much better tools. There are obvious questions whether he can do this consistently against NBA length and survive there defensively. He didn’t really help his draft stock at BWB global camp and is not the best fit for the top league in the world unless he starts shoting amazingly well from behind the arc. However you can see that he is already legitimate rotation member on notable level where he come from and how close he is at the age of 18 to match the production of established players in good pro European teams.

Recap: NBBL/JBBL TOP4
Another big performance came from Marko Pecarski. There is no discovery that Marko has magnificent footwork, touch and scoring instincts. He keeps contributing on the level we all got used to see from him. There are some questions remaining about his productivity on the top level while facing elite athletes. We witnessed small sample of that in Frakfurt as Da Silva and Okao tried to slow him down but he eventually found a way to put on big numbers anyway. Things are not equally easy for Pecarski on defensive where he still has problems to stay in front on long perimeter drives.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • good size for power forward. Wide and high in shoulders
  • fundamentally sound in almost every aspect of the game. Fantastic IQ and scoring instincts
  • as skilled offensively as it gets at his age. Can roll, pop, post up and spot up
  • exceptionally soft touch on non dunk attempts combined with very good footwork and body control. Able to make turnaround jumper or mid hook. Finishes off the glass with perfect angles
  • great long mid range shooter who also has acceptable three point %. Shots it with quick feet set and really good rotation. Excellent free throw executor
  • amazing rebounder. Can touch and grab or tip in. Smartness and positioning overcome lack of leaping ability
  • professional approach. Concentrated on the game
  • not a good athlete at all. Doesn’t have a motor. Ok mobility but below average quickness
  • lateral coordination can be a problem on the next level. Recovers thanks to good anticipation, size and instincts but it may not enough to defend pick and roll against athletic guards
  • has always been main offensive option but his scoring and rebounding efficiency will be difficult to translate against elite length. Can he help the team or produce more for others then?
  • doesn’t excel as a passer. Rarely create for others
OUTLOOK
Marko is a son of Miroslav Pecarski who once won the Euroleague with Panathinaikos. He is offensive-minded player who can score in variety of ways and for a long stretches. It’s obvious that he has to improve his body and physical conditioning but with his skillset and advanced knowledge of the game he is strong 2nd round draft candidate.
