PREDRAFT MEASUREMENTS

Evaluating 2018 UCONN recruit - Lukas Kisunas
After recent committments of the wings and backcourt players from 2018 class (Kristian Sjolund, Jaylen Hoard and David Czerapowicz), European big man are trending during college recruiting period. Shortly after Estonian Matthias Tass who is heading to Saint Mary’s, University of Connecticut landed 1999 born – Lukas Kisunas.

Lithuanian center who was previously visited by the UCONN coach – Kevin Ollie arrived at Huskies campus last week and after that took the trip to Illinois and Creighton. Among many other schools Lukas was also targeted by Purdue which watched him during the FIBA U18 European Championship in Bratislava, Slovakia.

However he appeared on the radar of High Major programs in USA almost right away since he arrived there. Just took his time to make a choice like most of European talents do as the process they are facing is kinda new to them. Shortly after quite successful FIBA U17 World Championship last summer where he won bronze medal with his national team, decided to join Brewster Academy and really got into the better shape. Basically from below the rim player he became decent athlete able to make no step dunks and moreover really bulked up his already solid frame.

The product of non existing anymore Sarunas Marciulonis Basketball Academy is type of the fighter who displays tremendous defensive effort and can be considered serious low post stopper. He possess all the proper fundamentals you would hoping the big man to have. Knows how to fill the open lines during guards penetrations and rolls to the rim well in two man game. Specialized in executing strength advantage too. On the other hand he is not overly skilled with his back to the basket where he utilizes mostly simple moves & fakes and lacks significant perimeter skills. Also he is unfortunately a bit undersized for the highest professional standards.

Nonetheless the role he usually takes on the court seems very translatable. He is consistent with his effort and can add very demanded value to the team where he is surrounded by more talented prospects. Should be ready to contribute in strong American Conference since beginning.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • length may be average for Center position but very solidly built
  • rolls aggressively to the rim. Picks his spots wisely off the ball
  • makes pretty good usage of his body. Can establish position deep down in the post
  • tough player who is not affraid of contact. Throws his elbows and shoulders around
  • decent mobility for his weight and fact that he is not a stand out athlete
  • strong 1-on-1 low post defender
  • well coached. Really good fundamentals
  • has a very good girth which allows him to be highly effective screener
  • can utilize fakes but mostly below the rim player
  • really improved athlete but does he still has room for improvement in this regard?
  • lacks significant length
  • skill level is a work in progress. Just simple & efficient enough finisher. Lacks some finesse moves. Avoids left hand
  • a bit non-existent perimeter game
OUTLOOK
Kisunas quickly draw a lot of attention from some high major programs after his arrival in United States. He is a Center who plays oldschool style and can emerge as a valuable role player. His style is physical and toughness is definitely his big advantage. He brings good effort day in & day out but mostly lives from feeding. In order to have a bigger offensive impact on the floor he needs to add mid range game.
