Toni Nakic

Height: 202cm – 6’8’’
Born: 01.06.1999
Nationality: Croatia
Position: Forward
Current team: Cibona

RANK:
Of 1999 Generation

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • perfect size for a wing. Acceptable body frame
  • excellent spot up shooter. Not overly quick but compact and consistent release. Perfect wrist action
  • comfortable dealing with double teams or ball pressure thanks to size and long strides. Can take over point guard responsibilities for some stretches
  • shows flashes of becoming solid pick and roll ball handler. Instinctual passer in half court and transition
  • good effort. Dives for the loose balls, looks like a really good teammate on the court
  • solid defensive fundamentals. Not the quickest laterally but recovers thanks to length and good positioning
  • very good rebounder for the position
  • so-so athleteticism. Average explosiveness and quickness. Not bouncy at all
  • doesn’t create shots off the dribble without trouble. Looks down in isolations
  • acceptable ball handler but doesn’t keep it low to the ground. Also right hand dominant
  • plays a bit at unvarying pace, especially off the ball
  • not comfortable playing through contact. Finishes plays under the rim only thanks to good length and good touch
  • not a cutter type. Makes effort to find an open spot only behind the arc
OUTLOOK
Toni Nakic didn’t use to be mentioned in the same breath with the best guards from 1999 generation. Things changed for him after really strong showing at L’Hospitalet Adidas Next Generation tournament where he played on loan with Cedevita. However height and outstanding catch and shoot skills may not be enough to become high level European player. He needs a big improvement in physicality and broaden his shooting repertoire to become elite in this category.
