STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • big-boned body. Possess incredible natural strength
  • true banger. Checks a lot of boxes. Can really deny the ball on the low post
  • decent low post moves. Uses primarily strong body but good balance, footwork and creativity are also there. Able to hit turnaround or one legged mid range shoots
  • sets solid screens. Rotates to the basket perfectly in pick and roll. Good awareness. Can finish quickly on the move
  • good effort on the glass. Will chase down rebounds outside of his area
  • has kind of warrior and winner mentality. Fights for each ball. Very passionated about successful plays
  • improved but still below average outside shooter. Slow release, inconsistent motion
  • runs the floor pretty quick but overall athleticism especially jumping and stamina leave a lot to be desired
  • doesn’t have the soft touch. Struggles to finish with the left hand and over elite length
  • not a good ball handler. Uncoordinated with the ball
  • defense remain the question mark. Has hard times after switches and in pick and pop situations
OUTLOOK
Balciunas has been highly effective player on youth level since years. He previously played in Real Madrid where he was even named the MVP of Mini Copa in 2014. His contract was not exteded probably because he didn’t grow and is unlikely to ever do that. He exhibits the skillset typical for a big man which is untranslatable for the highest European level with his size. Balciunas productivity will continue to go down if he doesn’t make huge adjustment in his game especially as a shooter in order to become power forward. However if he is able to do that the energy, sacrifices he makes on the floor and desire to win can make him very desirable and impactful player.
