Preview: Prospects in Pro leagues - France
Other noteworthy prospects in the Jeep Elite division would be Cholet Basket pg  Karlton Dimanche and forward Yoan Makoundou.  The early departure of Killian Hayes last season to ULM Ratiopharm provided Dimanche with an unexpected opportunity.  With a full season featured with the pros under his belt, Dimanche looks to continue his climb on the 2002 generation prospect radar.  This season with Cholet he will test his skill in the Basketball Champions League competition.  Makoundou was a fairly unknown prospects (playing in 5 division) before arriving last season and having a breakout U21 campaign with Cholet.  This season he will integrate with the pros with much improvement on the horizon.  A player that possess freak athletic abilities but still very raw, Makoundou is a tweener still figuring out his pro position (undersize as a big and lacks dribbling/ shooting ability to play outside).  But his athleticism and energy on both sides of the ball will allow him to see spurts of minutes here and there with the pros.

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • decent body. Strong legs and already developed upper part
  • athlete with great wingspan. Maybe not posterizing machine but will play above the rim given the space
  • runs the floor hard, fluid and fairly quick for the size. Really energetic and always first in transition
  • rock solid motor. Active on both ends. Crashes the glasses, moves off the ball
  • shows flashes of face up assets at times. Has nice body control. Can become capable of driving from perimeter in (short) future
  • long term upside given tools and ability to make an impact while still dealing with so many flaws. Started to play late
  • lacks offensive polish badly
  • handle is still lose. Seems like he tries to use it too much. In general wants bigger contribution skillwise than he is able to provide to the team. Could stay in his role more willingly
  • too aggressive at times
  • touch looks really stiff. Avoids finishing with left badly. Not reliable non dunk finisher at this point
  • stroke has ways to go
  • obvious defensive potential but lacks fundamentals. Naive, will flash and react to good fakes
OUTLOOK
Yohan Makoundou has roots in Congo. He is extremely long and raw talent. He played on low level not so long ago before joining Cholet and first had international showing at AST 2018 in Mannheim. He is hyperactive player developing PF skillset but can easily play small ball center in future. Skill and IQ progress will be followed closely but deserves to be even in NBA scouts notebooks.
