Analysis - 2020 European NBA Draft Picks

Vit Krejci, Oklahoma City Thunder – 37th overall

Despite tearing his ACL in September 2020 while playing for Zaragoza, Krejci became the third European player drafted by the Thunder in the 2020 NBA Draft. He spent this season rehabbing with the Thunder and its G-League affiliate, Oklahoma City Blue, but was not fit enough to appear in any games. Krejci expects to start practicing again in July and play 5-on-5 in August, which means he could be on schedule to compete in the Summer League. He will likely be brought along slowly by the Thunder and primarily play in the G-League next season. Krejci also has a lot of competition with playmakers like Gilgeous-Alexander, Maledon, and a potential lottery pick this upcoming draft. His combination of size, he is 6’8, and playmaking makes him intriguing, but shooting was a concern for him leading up to the draft.

Scouting Notebook: Prospects in resumed leagues
The third prospect in Zaragoza’s team was Vit Krejci. He showed some good performances too. The versatile and athletic Czech guard was attacking the rim, showed some confidence in his off the dribble shot and dished a few nice assists. Had a big role in defense too, usually guarding the best offensive player or shooter in opponents team.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • decent height for guard. Projected to be over 200cm
  • able to play both backcourt positions
  • long strides. Runs very fluidly. Solid athlete
  • not always super instensive but has considerable defensive potential with his length
  • talented ball handler. Very smooth and fluid in this regard. Can change gears. Has nice hesitation move
  • could develop into full time point guard with more playing time at this position. Can really read the defense and find open man during penetrations
  • opportunistic in transition with the ball. Able to handle at full speed
  • very confident and electrifying player
  • shows flashes as a shooter. Not always perfect motion but mostly hard to argue with the results
  • doesn’t cut hard. Prefers to create by himself
  • needs to get visibly stronger. Contact affects him too much
  • unfortunately shares the backcourt with another great prospect – Carlos Alocen and still doesn’t have enough experience in playing as full time Point Guard
U18 OUTLOOK
Vit Krejci is really gifted player and can be undoubtedly considered another great prospect from Czech Republic. He moved to Zaragoza at the age of 14 and already made his ACB debut during 2016/2017 season before turning 17 years old. He is extremely smooth and possess elite positional size. NBA radar type of prospect.
