Lucas Langarita played his game and was an important piece in Spain’s success. He was not the leader in the team but he complemented the other players so well, did what was expected from him on a high level and played a great complementary role. Unfortunately his worst game at the tournament was in the finals against France but in the other matches he was amongst the best players of Spain. Lucas was playing great on-ball defense, not allowing any easy points or forcing the mistakes. After his team got the ball, he loved to play on open court and did lots of damage that way too. Played a good role in half-court sets too and showed his versatility as pick & roll creator and also value as a catch & shoot shooter. The athletic and versatile combo guard offers lots of value as a role player and he would be a great fit in many HM college programs.
Langarita’s performances at this camp were like a rollercoaster. He had some great plays, then there were some cheap mistakes, followed by great plays and so on. The athletic guard was putting pressure on the rim with his slashing but the awareness on some of the drives was poor since the paint was jammed and there was no place to get to the rim. Took lots of shots from mid-range and deep too and the percentages on those shots were solid – his shooting mechanics at the Sunday morning shoot around looked inconsistent so taking that in consideration, his percentages in the games are good. Did his part in defense, was active as helpside defender but made some mistakes in rotations.
After his all-tournament nomination at the U17 World Championship last season, the Spaniard also made it to the best five of the tournament at the ANGT in Zadar. Langarita was simply the most complete offensive player. With the help of his mix of speed and power, he regularly managed to beat defenders in close outs or 1v1 attacks and finished variably near the ring. In addition to his penetration, he also showed versatility with shooting from all spots. He was also one of the best assist providers in Zadar with 5.2 per game. His other tournament stats: 18pts, 45.8% 2FG, 7/23 3FG, 7.8rebs, 5to.
Defensively he acted solidly and hardly made any mistakes. His active rebounding (7.2 defensive rebounds per game) is worth mentioning.

Langarita was one of the most fun players to watch. He was stepping his game up every round and was playing better and better through the tournament. A very good athlete that made quite a few dunks on drives and forced the fans in the stands (and maybe even at home) to stand up from their seats. Overall a better slasher off the catch than from a standstill position and there is room to improve in his iso game. Lucas wasn’t that efficient as a shooter from deep but can make spot up shots if left open but he played with a lot of confidence and wasn’t scared to make a play when it mattered. Versatile perimeter defender too and can basically defend players from 1 to 3. There was a lot to like in Langarita and he showed much better performances here than at the ANGT in Varese where he played for Zaragoza. Curious what the future holds for him but he showed that he has the tools and potential to make it to the pro levels.
