Albert Schweitzer 2018 Tournament - Top European Prospects
Kay Bruhnke (SF, Germany)

Not the greatest performance yet again what we saw from Bruhnke was decent. Physically looks mature with a defined body – only needs to bulk up a little. 6’7 can play every position from 1-4 thanks to his size and ability to take care of the ball. Will likely be a point forward as a pro, he lacks the much needed quick first step to devastate opposing players. Communicates and organizes the team when he is on the court. Shooting stroke looked a little off, had trouble to consistently hit the shots beyond the arc. Gave an edge on rebounds to his team averaging 4.3 RPG. Needs to find ways to score more often as he is not good enough on contact inside and his on jumpshots.

Recap: Munich Adidas Next Generation Tournament
KAY BRUHNKE (6’6, Guard/Forward, Bamberg) – German prospect with Polish roots was good not great but did a lot for his team if we take under consideration that he was recovering from illness. First game was clearly the best player on the floor but later run out of gas a little in this intensive tournament. From physical standpoint Kay looks much more mature now but what stands about about him even more is how advanced understanding of the game he has. At 6’7 he plays as point forward, shares the ball with style including cross passess off the dribble. Moreover shows some leadership qualities and is great communicator on the floor. On the other hand could be more explossive. Don’t really see NBA chances but it’s easy to picture him having long succesful career on high European level.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • fluid athlete with very good height and developable frame
  • solid leaping ability. Can finish above the rim and be a lob target
  • attacks to the basket constantly. Fearless style of game
  • very good finisher in transition
  • comfortable ball handler with some playmaking ability
  • makes effort to use his height on guard position and play occasionaly with his back to the basket
  • already a good shooter. Displays nice footwork, able to come off screens. Can pull up off the dribble from deep range
  • more bouncy than explosive
  • solid defensive effort but needs to raise awareness. Leaves too much space for a shoot. Gets lost on screens
  • not the toughest guy around
  • needs to add consistency from behind the arc next seasons
OUTLOOK
Kay’s parents come from Poland but he was born and raised in Germany close to Bamberg. He is not only a star of youth teams but also long time fan of the team. Bruhnke is a sensational talent thanks to his budding skillset and athleticism combo. If he improves his quickness to become even bigger threat in isolations he may become incredible offensive player. Very likely to put on Brose jersey in Euroleague game in few years.
