ERIK PERSSON (6’3, Sweden)

Swedish combo guard is an underrated prospect from 2000 generation. Currently resides in new Spanish academy (SBA) and participates in one tier below EBA Liga which would definitely be more appropriate for his development. Persson is extremely efficient scorer on youth level who displays top notch shooting skills. He possess great individual technique. Footwork, handles and coordination allow him to create enough space to get the shoot off the dribble almost at will. He is not overly quick but makes up for the lack of explosiveness with his pace shifting ability. He is also plus defender when he digs in. On the other hand his size is very average and so so playmaking ability raises questions whether he can translate his game on the good European senior level. He doesn’t get to the rim enough and his pick and roll reads are average in best case scenario. Needs to broaden his offensive repertoire to become more than very capable scorer but on low level.

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • excellent all around shooter
  • good handles and footwork. Creates shots off the dribble almost at will
  • scorer mentality. Doesn’t hesitate to take the next attempt
  • digs in defensively. Seems to be a plus player on this end of the floor. Good thief
  • knows how to change gears and put his defender out of rhythm & balance
  • draws a lot of fouls while taking the shot thanks to ability to hit “in your face” jumpers and a bit delayed release
  • doesn’t really progress as playmaker especially in pick and roll situations
  • not imposing physically. Stands just at 6’3 in shoes which is average considering that playmaking is not his first choice
  • quickness is just ok. Not projected to be good penetrations finisher
OUTLOOK
Erik Persson is interesting combo guard who went from Sweden to Spanish Basketball Academy. He has some Svi Mikhailiuk to him but displays much worse size and overall athleticism. Erik still has a lot of work to do in order to improve his PG qualities so he could become more than very good scorer on low level.
