Mateja Gorunovic

Height: 191cm – 6’3’’
Born: 26.04.2002
Nationality: Serbia
Position: Guard
Current team: Partizan

RANK:
Of 2002 Generation

U16 OVERVIEW
Mateja’s father coached him ever since he was a kid. He was and still is like a project of his and there are numerous recordings on YouTube showing his practices. Father asked for a coaching spot to most of the teams that wanted to sign Mateja and eventually Mateja went to Partizan. His motoric potential is limited as he does not have the necessary burst nor explosiveness to be effective as a guard. He splits his duties between a PG and an of ball SG. Jumper is ineffective and release point is low, easy to block and the range still isn’t there. Struggles from the 3p line, shot only 22% in U17 League and couldn’t find his rhythm against U16 competition in Zrenjanin tournament as well. With all that said, he possess certain level of offensive talent and it shows mostly in drives. He cant go by a defender with athleticism so he needs to be resourceful which he is. Knows to make those pumpfakes, up and unders to get the basket. That is where he shows creativity. At this point he is best at providing scoring in limited minutes. If he gets going, he can score a lot of points in limited time. Right now, he doesn’t provide much else. His ultimate ceiling will depend on how hard he is willing to work to perfect ball handling and shooting. His physical potential is limited, but he needs to maximize it with serious working and eating regimen in order to have a chance to succeed in pro ball.
