PREDRAFT MEASUREMENTS

Kaunas AdidasNGT: Prospects
JONAS PAUKSTE (7’3, 2000, CENTER, LIETUVOS RYTAS) – Ridiculous tall – may be 218-219cm (7’3) without shoes. Body is slightly improved but still very lanky. Tried to be really competitive and it’s hard to have any objections about how he used his length on boards. Seems to be somewhere between Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Shawn Bradley. However more of a poor version of them as he has neither polished mid range J like Big Z nor cosmic length of enormous mormon. Also times he lives in are less relevant for such a skinny giants. Fairly mobile for his measurements but has obvious troubles with lateral movement while taken away from the rim. Positive aspect was that he was really making effort not to get dominated by stronger frontcourt players.

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • giantic height standing at 7’2 without shoes
  • fairly mobile for such a big player
  • touch is promising. Already shoots mid range in low demanding games
  • obvious rebounding and blocking potential thanks to his standing reach
  • has been making constant and steady progress considering he couldn’t practise as much and hard as others
  • tremendous upside given his height, mobility mid range shot and room for improvement physically
  • motivated and committed to hard work
  • may be mobile but mechanics could be improved. Doesn’t bend his knees a lot while running. A bit slow atthe moment
  • extremely lanky. Needs more time to mature than his peers. Still kinda adapting himself to his enormous height
  • gets push around. Some of his attempts look bad because of that
  • arrived on the map late as high level prospect. Basketball IQ is still work in progress
OUTLOOK
Jonas has always stood out with his height. He started to play basketball at the age of ten after previously practising karate. Thanks to size and touch he can be compared to Zydrunas Ilgauskas who reportedly was equally weak physically in his mid and late teenage years. But there were also other giantic NBA talents from Lithuania who never really made it big. Next years when Jonas adds muscles and fully finishes growing will tell more how much can he adjust to the pace of the game and direction that modern basketball is going towards.
