U19 ABA League Championship: Top Prospects in Belgrade

Aleksandar Langović (Mega Bemax; PF | 205 cm | ‘01)

Dominated in the paint all tournament long. No team had a player that could be a good matchup for him – most power forwards were too weak and bigger players were to slow for him. Good, strong body with great leaping ability. Has a really good anticipation for rebounds and blocks and protected the rim really well. Has good legs too and he could defend players on perimeter. Strong finisher around the rim but showed some good touch too. He has 3pt range but still needs more work to be a consistent shooting threat. Hasn’t shown much feel for game and dominated mostly because of his physical tools so further evaluation is needed when he plays against better and physically stronger opponents/matchups.

Aleksander Langovic / 6’9, 2001 / Mega Bemax / MVP

Langovic was the MVP of the tournament even while it was not his best showing so far. In the group games he was not playing like the alpha type and he was pretty much careless with the ball, averaging 4.3 TO in three games. Still he was very effective around the basket thanks to his athleticism, strength and fundamental. Very efficient finisher around the rim, uses his light feet to his advantage. In addition to that, we can say that he was better in low post in this tournament. Most impressive part of his game is his rebounding instincts. Fights for loose balls and follows every rebound with nice positioning inside. Outside shot is still a work in progress, made 2/10 throughout the tournament. In the final game, he looked more focused than ever playing with high percentages inside without making easy mistakes and also being competitive on defense.

Recap: Best prospects from Belgrade AdidasNGT
ALEKSANDAR LANGOVIC (2001, 6’9, FORWARD, MEGA BEMAX) – Last summer Langovic presented himself as a fanstastic athlete at FIBA U16 European Championship. He got visibly heavier which reduced his speed and bounce in big degree. Seems to be moved much more inside and no longer attacks closeouts in remarkable way but is still very efficient. Plays super hard and operates inside on good FG percentage. While IQ is average has a nose for rebounds and very long arms. However in my eyes it’s not enough for high level 4-5 hybrid and he needs to get back his athleticism.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • not bad size. Has a long limbs, especially arms, Good athlete
  • possess strong legs. Tremendous leaper. Make highlight reel type of dunks
  • can drive in straight line with his long strides
  • good overall strength. Causes damage inside against peers. Needs some polish to translate it to pro though
  • plays with tremendous intensity. Runs the floor hard. Constantly active by cutting and pursuing offensive rebounds
  • solid lateral movement. Puts in work on D. Likely to become multipositional defender
  • really tough kid. Hustler type
  • overall skillset level is not overwhelming
  • needs to add jumper, especially 3pt to step up his game
  • average touch. Finishes with his left at all costs
  • has tunnel vision tendency around the rim
OUTLOOK
Langovic is extremely energetic forward who outworks everyone on the court. He was All-Star member of European Jordan Brand Classic Camp and impressed a lot of scouts during the U16 Championship where he presented some Anthony Randolph type of plays. At the moment he is very unpolished and there is a work to do with his IQ and ball skills in order to be dangerous outside the paint.
