Marek Blaževič (C | 210 cm | ’01) ~ Obradorio (Spain), Lithuania

Marek Blaževič was doing his job. He was setting good screens and that played an important role in his team’s offense. Usually he rolled good and straight to the rim and if he received a useful pass, he had not problems of finishing at the rim. Showed good interior game, good post up technique and controlled the paint in defense. High IQ big that understands his role and what he is supposed to do. Also made some nice passes to cutters too and showed upside as a passing big.

Marek Blazevic left Rytas in big degree because of Saras before he accepted an offer from Barcelona. Now since Landale didn’t leave for NBA young big might explore loan options but surely there will be number of teams interested (even abroad starting from Lokomotiv Kuban) in bringing fundamentally sound prospect with great character who is ready to contribute on high level.

Kaunas AdidasNGT: Prospects
MAREK BLAZEVIC (6’10, 2001, CENTER, LIETUVOS RYTAS) – Not to take anything away from Rytas there is no U18 club in Europe where Blazevic would not be the major contributor. He possess absolutely perfected positioning and top notch instincts for a big man – either rebounding and passing wise. He is efficient and likes to take scoring burden on his shoulders but could possibly add more go to moves in the low post to translate it for the next level. 86% from the FT line is a good indicator of improved shooting touch.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • solid height standing at 6’10 with ok frame
  • highly competitive guy who plays hard. Displays good strength. Willing to fight, gets under the basket
  • does good job to box his man out. Possess phenomenal instincts and impeccable timing for rebounds especially on offensive end
  • can put his defender in the air with great pump-fake. Draws tons of fouls in the paint
  • good activity on low post. Positions himself well off the ball. Can also attack to the baseline
  • extremely high basketball IQ
  • one of those bigs who can excite the crowd with his passing ability. Deals with double teams easily
  • always chooses the right line to cut off the ball
  • could improve his shooting a little to step out of the paint more often. Free throws are just acceptable for now
  • still has a room to improve as a finisher. Touch is not soft enough for the prospect with such a fantastic fundamentals. Gets many unfriendly rolls close to the basket
  • not exceptionally mobile. Doesn’t lower his hips enough. Struggles a bit with perimeter defense
  • good body but not really gifted physically. Plays below the rim
  • can limit his turnover numbers. Tries some questionable high low passes
OUTLOOK
Blazevic comes from Polish family in Vilnius. He established himself as one of the Top Centers of 2001 generation thanks to fantastic understanding of the game and veteran-like style. He seems to walk the fine line between oldschool flair and demandings of modern basketball. With his talent and commitment to hard work he can very well become Euroleague starter.
