STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • has done a great job filling out his upper body. Can be dominant on his position at youth level
  • being main offensive weapon allowed him to gain very good confidence level in his abilities
  • his wrist action and follow through may need tweaking but has some shooting potential. Makes good pull ups, steps out for three pointers
  • has some all around skills. Plays many positions
  • absorbs a lot of contact, can force his way to the basket
  • solid body control for a player with his weight while finishing. Makes even some euro step moves
  • paradoxically weak level of competition in his country allowed him to gain solid experience against grown men at extremely young age
  • very good rebounder on position. Can start the offense after grabbing the ball
  • much more mobile than quick or explosive
  • hard to find any good player coming out of his country. Can he become the first one?
  • average athlete laterally (defensively), needs to improve vertical leap
  • may be versitale on the court but skills are not polished to the high level. Makes plays against so so competition. How does it translate when the level of competition keeps growing?
  • makes mistakes under the pressure. Should have been able to adjust to this situation quicker as he faces bigger defensive focus than his teammates regularly
OUTLOOK
Ben Kovac has Slovakian roots. He grew up in the multicultural environment, speaks many languages which gives him ability to adjust quickly in new environment. Although having some possibilities to try abroad he keeps playing in Luxembourg Top Division but it’d be overstatement to call it professional league. Kovac displays nice fundamentals and feel for the game for someone coming from the place with no tradition and basketball background. He can become a solid pro and an example to follow for his countrymen. Also proof that with hard work and commitment it’s possible to make it everywhere.
