Albert Schweitzer 2018 Tournament - Top European Prospects
Hendrik Drescher (PF/C, Germany)

Biggest advantage of him is that he is much stronger compared to last year which allows him to be utterly effective on rebounds and low post offense. Of course the lack of solid bigs in the tournament paved the way for great performances but still the developments cannot be unseen. Been great stretch option on offense for a while now, Drescher is a solid shooter on the perimeter as well. He upgraded to be an average athlete with a strong body, did not seem slow like in the earlier tournaments. His passing game should be appreciated – he really helped the flow of the ball on offense. Defensively, best we can say is that he makes average contribution regarding he is an undersized big with not much of an athleticism. Struggles to catch up with more athletic bigs in the game. Will add value to most of the BBL teams in rotation in the upcoming years.

Recap: Munich Adidas Next Generation Tournament
HENDRIK DRESCHER (6’9, Forward, Alba) – Great weekend for Alba frontcourt prospect. Surprisingly he was one of the best players running in Audi Dome. However for scouts best player rarely means best prospect. Drescher has to be appreciated and respected for how big strides he made to adjust to the modern basketball. He stretches the court more and more reliably and even made occassional drives or quite athletic finishes for such a heavy footed guy. However his ball sharing was total game changer for his team. Almost 4.5 assist per game is something that most likely even Alba staff wasn’t expecting. Upside is still limited but if he keeps working that much on body and game then he may earn solid money from basketball.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • really strong body – about 250 pounds
  • really trying to take his game outside. Made a big strides in short term as a shooter
  • nice feel and decent overall skillset
  • can pass the ball well for a big man
  • despite his thickness is really creative and offers more than just physicality to create for himself on low post. Displays nice touch in both hands
  • has solid footwork. Can convert hook shots. Uses fakes leading to counter moves
  • moves fairly good regarding big body but still a bit on heavy side. Looks like he has tendency to gain weight
  • perimeter skills. Not a threat beside shooting with his face to the basket.
  • lack of athletic potential and short size for center really hurts his upside
  • plays below the rim
  • doesn’t offer much as a rim protector
OUTLOOK
Drescher moved to Alba Berlin before 2016/2017 season and signed three year deal altogether with his teammate Jonas Mattiseck. He started to play basketball at the age of 11 which is not really early start but somehow he was quickly able to establish himself as a prospect with decent feel for the game and good skill level. He needs to keep polishing his outside game and find a way to fully use his IQ and instincts to successfully compete against bigger and more athletic players.
