PREDRAFT MEASUREMENTS
Alexandre Dam Sarr was often in the shadows of other French big men but in the final phases of the tournament he managed to show his talents on the defensive end. He made lots of great defensive plays, locked down the painted area and controlled the area around the rim. He has all the necessary tools to be a great defender – long arms, athletic, agile and has good instincts. After some blocked shots he run the floor extremelly well and showed his rim running abilities too. Attempted some shots from deep but he is not a reliable and consistent shooting threat at the moment. Made some good catch & finish plays when he found himself in a good position under the rim and his team mates rewarded him with the pass. Offensive game needs more polishing and it is quite raw at the moment but he brings a lot of value in defense although it won’t be easy for him to make immediate impact on pro level in NBL next season due to his thin frame. Has lots of upside but the Perth Wildcats will need to be patient with him.

Sarr was consistently performing well every night. He was doing his job in the paint on both ends and showed his two-way value. But what makes me happy is that he made a big progress in shooting in comparison to last year’s U16 challenger. He wasn’t taking many shots from deep there and was also poor from the FT line but in this tournament he showed that he added some range and consistency in his shooting from distance. Not a player that would regularly stretch the floor but there are signs that over time he could get there. When it comes to finishing at the rim, he can finish with both hands with soft touch and also throw it down if he gets enough space. Can play face up and back to the basket so there is some versatility in his isolation game too. He runs the floor great, challenges shots at the rim… the only thing I would like to see more often from him is that he would go for a rebound more aggressively. He is athletic and long enough to grab more rebounds than he did in this tournament and rebounding will be an important skill in determining his ceiling. There is a lot to like in his game and the potential is really high if he continues to develop his game in the right direction.

Younger brother of Olivier Sarr. Alexandre left Real Madrid youth program and will play for Overtime Elite in next seasons. He is one of the most talented bigs in his generation, a mobile and athletic big that likes to play above the rim. Follows the game well and offers himself for dunks at the dunker spot and goes for dunks whenever there is an opportunity. Great also in pick & roll actions and this will be a big strength from him in the future. In the past he has shown that he has some ball handling and 1vs1 skills too but he didn’t have many opportunities to show that here in this tournament. Has good touch at the rim but needs to improve his finishing in traffic and under contact where he could be a little more efficient with his non-dunk finishes. High potential as a defender too where he knows how to protect the paint and also mobile enough to follow some players on perimeter.
