Preview: Prospects in Pro Leagues - ABA
Sani Čampara (Split): born in 1999. Had a great season last year in ABA2 playing for Sloboda Tuzla, averaging 13.4 points and 5.0 assists per game in 30 minutes. This year he should have the back up point guard role behind Ilija Djoković. More a rim and score oriented guard but has a good eye to find open teammates too. Hasn’t made the jump from Real Madrid’s youth team into the Spanish league but is now slowly making his way back up again through ABA League.

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • has important attributes to become a good  scorer in secondary role
  • great ball control and soft hands
  • tremendous shooter. His hot hand can hurt the opponent. Quick and compact release
  • shows passing skills in transition. Can findd open guys with his drives
  • has high basketball IQ and controls the team very well. Kind of next level feel for the game.
  • uses his IQ on defense a lot where it helps him not to get beat by his guy. Can stay in front of the ball
  • far from being physically gifted. Looks a bit clumsy
  • although he has a great ball control, he is not a big threat in pick and roll or isolations becuase of his limited athleticism
  • high basketball IQ and feel for the game does not reflect his assists numbers
  • doesn’t get beaten on defense but not the most willing player to press the ball
OUTLOOK
Sani was the big contributor in the Bosnian success at U16 FIBA Europe in Kaunas where they won a gold medal against host team while playing in front of 5000 people. He continued to prove his high level potential at AdidasNGT Tournaments and FIBA U17 World during which he accepted the offer from Real Madrid. His performance still tends to be somewhat inconsistent but it says a lot that Real or national team look at his hand at big stages. Undoubtedly Sani has athletic limitation but his IQ, shooting skills can help him find a role for himself in the best European leagues.
