Uroš Trifunović (Partizan): born in 2000. Eligible for the award but don’t expect such a big role for him in this loaded Partizan team that he could be in the conversations for the award. Played some good matches last year in the second half of the season and could be a part of the rotation on some matches in this season too. Wasn’t the most efficient as a shooter last season, he is definitely capable of better percentages. Has smooth shooting stroke and has the potential to become a solid shooter for European level. Can also get past defenders and finish at the rim, bulked up in the offseason and his body looks much better and ready for senior competitions.

Sleepers of 2000 Generation
UROS TRIFUNOVIC – Late bloomer who hit the growth spurt. Was forgone in previous Serbian national team selections and unexpectedly turned out to be x factor behind the gold medal in Riga last summer at U18s. Overshadowed by higher profile prospects in the lineup like: Marko Pecarski, Filip Petrusev, Zoran Paunovic or Dalibor Ilic, Uros took the very important pass first role as starting point guard. He was never overwhelmed despite being a rookie and showed no ego type of attitude which contributed to the winning. Trifunovic was not totally unknown thanks to his surname and as previously he was part of Mega Bemax youth teams but disappeared after father was given job in Pinar Karsiyaka. Talented guard joined him in Turkey where he practised with strong seniors on a daily basis and was a leader of U19 team. He may have some athletic limitations which however seem smaller than at the first sight after watching his practises closely for few days. Moreover he possess size and instincts which cannot be teached. His pick and roll reads are very correct, he is reliable ball handler under the pressure but excels also as spot up & off screen shooter who has enough length to defend SFs without overly physical style of playing. Uros was very close to sign a deal with Ratiopharm Ulm before the season but decided to go back to his homeland where he is currently one of the Zemun leaders in KLS.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • hit late significant growth spurt. Very good size for a guard or even point forward
  • shooting potential. High arching release, makes pull up jumpers
  • capable of coming off screens with quick feet set like classic SG
  • can play as secondary ball handler. Solid ball protection, keeps the dribble low to the ground
  • proper pick and roll executor either for himself and teammates
  • definitely son of a coach – possess very good basketball IQ
  • appears to have solid length and defensive anticipation
  • solid positional rebounder
  • still very lanky. Has huge troubles in playing through contact
  • average speed and athleticism
  • has annoying habit of deep double teaming
Uros always seemed to be intriguing late bloomer. He grew up a lot between 16 and 18yo. Remained a bit out of radar because of moving out to Karsiyaka where his father used to coach but was finally called up to Serbian U18 national team and should start getting more and more attention internationally very soon.
