PREDRAFT MEASUREMENTS
Luka Tarlač (SF | 202 cm | ‘02) ~ Partizan
His statistics were more or less empty but he had a big impact on the success from Partizan on this tournament. Suffered some minor injury early in the second match and missed the last group game but played in the finals game. Glue guy of the team, doing the work on the defensive end. Luka has elite defensive instincts, especially good rotations and help from the weak side, resulting in some great blocks. Great hips and can drop low, has good reactions and great lateral movement. Versatile defender, capable of guarding most players on perimeter. Maybe he was too impatient in some on-ball defense situations and going directly for a steal and not waiting and defending the opponent cleanly. This resulted in him losing the balance and the offensive player getting past him but otherwise very good on ball defense. Has good footwork and can go around the screens fluidly. Had a minor offensive role on this tournament, made some good drives but hasn’t shot many shots from distance so hard to evaluate his offense. In past tournaments he was a pretty poor shooter and probably still needs to put more work on his shot and become a better, more consistent shooter and offensive player overall.
Luka Tarlać (Partizan; SF | 202 cm | ‘02)
Probably the best defensive player on the tournament. High lockdown defender potential. Great athletic capabilities combined with very good anticipation, great lateral movements and quick legs & hands. Was the tournament best in steals and blocks. His movements look very fluid, has good body and length for his position. Has good instincts in defense and his rotations from the helpside are rarely late. In offense he has still a lot of work to do. Struggles with his shot – from distance and from free throw line. Makes bad reads – doesn’t know when to shoot or when to penetrate. A lot of room for improvements in his offball movements too. Solid finisher around the rim, especially on open court. Showed some good passes and court vision on drives but still not on the highest level.
U16 OVERVIEW | |
---|---|
Luka is a son of Dragan Tarlac who was drafted on the beginning of the 2nd round by Chicago Bulls in 1995. He didn’t stick in NBA long term but played in the best European teams and holds also Greek citizenship. Unlikely to senior who was center, Luka possess physical profile of forward but loves to play with the ball as main offensive option. He was born very late in 2002, and in early 2018 already stands at 6’7 which doesn’t have to mean he is done growing since father was 6’11. Moreover he appears to have quite long arms and very good athleticism for European prospect. His size combined with decent quickness and handles make him great bucket getter on youth level. He can also attract defensive focus and kick the ball out, play defense and in general seems really well rounded. On the downside KK Sava is not really good team which doesn’t play vs Top Serbian competition on regular basis and he often looks like one man army. Because of that he tries to do too much on the court. Not missing the right time to join better club will be crucial for his further development as well as smoothness of transition to be one of the few go-to options. |
