Albert Schweitzer 2018 Tournament - Top European Prospects
Aleksander Ershov (SG/SF, Russia)

Missed three games because of a minor injury, AST 2018 was a mediocre tournament for Aleksander Ershov. CSKA Moscow product gave the impression of a ball-waster with low percentage, 38% on field goal attempts. His strength has been a factor since now and it is still a vital part of his style as a shot creator. His stock is stagnating as a result of him not fulfilling the expectations. It wasn’t like he was the leader of the team but still has tremendous explosiveness and scoring potential.

Kaunas AdidasNGT: Prospects
ALEKSANDR ERSHOV (6’6, 2000, GUARD, CSKA MOSCOW) – Stats may suggest at least adequate performance but considering stardom he gained in 2017 Kaunas AdidasNGT thanks to MVP award, I feel like scouts expected to see more and Ershov cannot be fully satisfied as well. CSKA didn’t appear on the podium again and Alexander’s role was somehow smaller than one year ago. Especially he was clearly not himself in first game of tournament. Later he bounced back a little but was unable to make his teammates better and some of his plays looked questionable. While he possess elite tools for European guard/wing considering how dynamic and explossive he is, there is still not so much upgrade in shot creation skills.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • well built frame. Very broad shoulders
  • solid athleticism
  • plays with impressive confidence. Really tough matchup
  • good shooter. Jumps higher than other players while taking the shot. Has pull up and mid range game. Can also elevate coming off a screen
  • aggressive attacker not affraid of contact. Willing to have the ball in hot moments
  • really good defender when he puts in work on this end. Strong legs, can sit down in a proper stance and keep pace
  • questionable shooting selection
  • seems to be a bit selfish at times
  • doesn’t speak good english
  • needs to broaden offensive repertoire
OUTLOOK
Ershov comes from the city of Kransnoyarsk. He is a player with scorer mentality. He plays with poise and possess strength which is close to elite on his position and easily allows him to compete in U23 VTB Youth League. However he doesn’t have much room to improve physically and is unlikely to ever be equally dominant offensively in CSKA senior team. This transition may be difficult for him and adjustment to the new role may take some time.
