Recap: Czech Scouting Trip
VINICIUS DA SILVA (7’1, Brazil, 2001, GBA)

Brazilian big man recently returned to Europe and is looking to rebuild his stock in Czech academy after somewhat unsuccesful and pre mature comeback to his motherland. Supersized big thrives as a rim protector which is understandable by simple eye test but he also surprisingly seems switchable enough for European standards thanks to tremendous mobility for that height. Anyways you could hope he is more ahead for someone who spent couple years in arguably the best development system especially regarding how extremely humble and determined he is. There is still a chance he eventually lands a spot as a defensive specialist on high European level but Vinicius unfortunately may also turn out to be too limited to achieve it. His touch was never really promising but what’s more concerning is a big problem with catching (even good) passes. Unskilled center with his profile simply must be reliable finisher to be playable. He needs to gain more strength too. Australian NBL opportunity would be fantastic booster if he can compete against such level of physicality.

Vinicius Da Silva (01’) after improving his game noticeably, he managed to get 12.5pts, 11reb, 0.8stl, 1.3to’s, 1.5blk. Being opportunistic scorer, he makes most of his points by positioning himself well under the rim and getting put backs rather than playing 1×1 or back to the basket. Still lanky body, needs to work on his shooting form as his shot doesn’t look very confident and finished poorly from FT line (46.7%).

Valencia AdidasNGT: NBA Prospects
VINICIUS DA SILVA (Center, 7’0, 2001, Brazil, Joventut Badalona)

Brazilian center improved basically every major aspect of basketball craft, starting from strength, through touch, all the way to the tactical knowledge. Standing at 7 feet with 7’2 wingspan and rather light feet, Vinicius shows promising mobility especially in hedging on defensive end. Offensively he is still raw and mostly tries to maximize his presence by taking rim protector, rebounder & finisher role on the court. However best thing about Da Silva may be his attitude. He looks extremely determined, plays with blue collar mentality and is very valuable teammate. Always focused, committed to work, very coachable and without much ego. He is still lanky, can’t really produce his own offense or shot but has rather good hands and seems teachable overall. Badalona’s center still has ways to go but with his motivation and development pace he is not out of chances to even become one day the next Brazilian big in the NBA. Even if it doesn’t happen he can clearly find himself a niche on high ACB level for years. But it all starts from maintaining his grinder approach, filling out the frame and being given solid minutes for Prat in Leb Gold since next season the latest.

Recap: Best Prospects at L'Hospitalet Adidas Next Generation Tournament
Think it’s interesting to talk about ‘01 Vinicius Da Silva (212 cm) from Brazil who finished the tournament averaging 8 points and 6.8 rebounds as well.

Vinicius recently joined the team in the Center role so it’s been short period but still has shown quite good adaptation.

He has been playing basketball for not a long time, so he still has room to improve.

Long skinny body still to develop but shows some good instinct to defend and intimidate. His shooting is not bad at all. He displayed some good offensive moves and aggressiveness around the rim.

Evaluation 1999-2001

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • measured 6’11 without shoes. Possess 7’2 wingspan. May not be done growing and reach even 217cm
  • runs the floor hard. Ok quickness
  • as good shot blocker and rebounder as you would expect from a player with his tools
  • makes great usage out of his length. Alters shots, covers ground, tips the ball out to teammates for second shot opportunity
  • plays with good intensity and great deal of determination. Box out opponents, doesn’t shy away from contact even though his strength is not great at the moment
  • good lateral movement for a player his size to defend dribble penetrations on the perimeter
  • long term upside
  • thin with an average frame which may struggle to fill out long term
  • tries occasional mid or long range shots which sometimes barely hit the rim. Developable but hands are still a bit stiff
  • good mobility but doesn’t have much power in his legs either. Coordination is also not perfect
  • still has ways to go in terms of instincts and polish
  • no low post game
OUTLOOK
Vinicius started to play basketball at the age of 12. He joined Joventut Badalona in November of 2017 even though he attracted interest from even bigger powerhouses like Real Madrid and Barcelona. Must follow player moving forward also for NBA teams. Especially with improved physicality and touch he can definitely appear in Draft consideration.
