GUGLIELMO CARUSO – Newest Santa Clara commit was very efficient in Italian Serie A2. He played in the worst team in the league but posted solid 12.6 pts and 8.4 reb and 2.3 blk per 36. He struggled with his lack of physicality at the end of the season but previously had really notable performances including two double doubles.

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • long arms. Good length for Power Forward position
  • covers ground defensively. Able to block some shots thanks to good timing. Stays in front on the perimeter vs PFs. Quick hands for a big man
  • decent screener. Experienced also as a Center – knows how to roll to the basket
  • good cutter. Keeps great spacing during penetrations. Easy to find by ball handlers
  • good finishing touch
  • nice body control and motor coordination. Changes directions on the fly. Has nice spin move
  • chases the ball outside of his arena. Has a nose for rebounding
  • solid footwork but not a big threat at low post. Cannot get inside. Forces difficult plays
  • not developed from physical perspective. Gets bumped off his route at times
  • below average low post defender. Tries to make up with solid anticipation but sometimes it’s not enough. Gets into foul trouble
  • three pointer is below average. Not perfect mechanics
OUTLOOK
Although having average athleticism Caruso is really interesting prospect with notable upside. He is considerably top Italian player in 1999 generation. Another advantage of Napoli native is experience level at international events and against older competition in his country. He is very efficient player off the catch but needs to become more multi dimensional offensively to bring interest of High Major schools. Further physical development is another key factor to a successful career.
