STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • pure and very confident shooter. Quick and repeatable motion. Huge threat in pick and pop actions
  • can get into the zone. Able to hit multiple shoots in a row either from mid range or behind the arc
  • long limbed late bloomer. Already good length for the position + he is still growing. Projected to have about two more inches
  • versatility. Can develop into pretty much all around player when he is physically mature looking at the progress he makes. Shoots over smaller forwards, quick enough to make a straight line drive
  • advanced feel and understanding of the game. Valuable off the ball movement
  • mentally ready to compete. Plays with good effort
  • much more mobile or quick than coordinated at the moment
  • lacks strength in upper body – it limits his contribution as a driver and around the rim finisher. Also gets denied off the ball
  • lateral mobility is limited at the moment. Recovers a bit thanks to IQ and reach but guarding the closeouts is very hard for him. Hands are very active while contesting the shoots but keeps safe distance not to get beaten
  • low release point. Seems to rely too heavily on stretching the floor. Needs to work a lot on his inside game too. Has upside to succeed there as he is mix handed player with good size
  • needs to improve ball handling in order to play more as a small forward
OUTLOOK
Jan is a son of former UCLA and NBA 7-foot Center – Jiri Zidek. His grandfather was also one of the best basketball players in Czechoslovakia history. He is hard working player who has all the proper instincts thanks to their guidance.  In contrast to father his game is based on outside shooting skills. Young Zidek is the example of late physical maturation. There is a long way to go but If he improves body and adds ability to play through contact also with the ball in his hands, he can jump into draft consideration.
