Alexander Shashkov (PF | 209 cm | ‘00) ~ CSKA Moscow

Not the best tournament for Shashkov and he is capable of much better performances but with some moves in the finals he showed that he has the potential for something more. His body has improved and looks stronger and prepared for the pro level. Solid shooter from distance and can stretch the floor or attack other slower bigs with drives if they are too close to him. Also runs the floor really well and can outrun other bigs. Active rebounder on both sides of the floor. With his combination of size and mobility he is also a good inside and outside defender.

STRENGHTS WEAKNESSESS
  • decent length. Standing at 6’10. Runs the floor quite well
  • stretches the floor. Pretty much polished shooting form. Good target for pick and pop type of plays
  • has a very good understanding of the game for a player his age
  • not overly wide bodied but possess ability to set useful screens
  • good rebounding instincts. Always boxes out his opponent
  • good non dunk finisher. Finds good angles off the glass. Uses his weaker left hand with equal success
  • shows great awareness. Knows how to play and makes an impact off the ball 
  • good physical profile but nothing exceptional. Not bouncy or explosive at all
  • needs to add some at least straight line driving ability to have more space to get the shot off
  • has defensive potential but doesn’t always sit in a good stance. Allows penetration to the middle
OUTLOOK
Shashkov is a fairly skilled big man with interesting history as he currently plays for the second season in Slovenia for Helios Domzale. Meanwhile during his short career he also had a few month episode in Ukraine which is pretty rare for Russian players as they don’t often play outside of their country. Alexander easily excels as a Center at youth level but could add some more power forward skills to fit the mold of the modern basketball better as he seems to already have a makings of that kind of player.
