Urban was again Real’s main guy on the backcourt spots. He was delivering every game and in my opinion he was the most developed scorer in the tournament. Defenders can’t leave him open or out of sight even for a second because he will punish every mistake and convert the open looks. His body is developed and he is ready to take the challenge and start his pro career. It will be interesting to see if Real will offer him a pro contract or will he sign somewhere else but he has the right mindset to succeed and wherever he will go, he will play his aggressive & confident game style. But the keyword here is “play” and in my opinion he needs to find a destination where he will get enough playing time to show his talents.

After a long time Urban played again in his home Slovenia and that brought a lot of his fans/friends to the stands and they made a good atmosphere in the arena. I would say that the keys of Real Madrid were given to him and that he was the leader of the team. Such an aggressive scorer that doesn’t need much space or time to punish the mistakes of the defenders. Lethal from deep and able to make shots off the bounce or off the catch, both in good percentages. He is a very good finisher at the rim too, has soft touch and can be also creative in his finishes but lacks size and sometimes rather goes for a mid-range shot than all the way till the end, especially when a good rim protector is lurking in the paint. He is a born scorer but he is slowly making progress in playmaking and passing although, in my opinion, he still has space for growth in this element of his game. Because of his strong body and good reactions he can be a pesky defender that makes life hard for the ball handlers but he doesn’t gamble for steals but tries to defend cleanly and milk away seconds from the clock. Overall good performances from Urban at this tournament and he did his part and deserved the spot in all tournament five.

Urban is a well-built Slovenian guard who despite being a year younger than most of the competition and coming off the bench could have taken over the games easily. Good and tough finisher around the rim, not afraid of contact. All that muscle especially in his shoulders gives him a cushion and helps absorb it. Smooth one motion shot with a pretty quick trigger. Wasn’t as efficient as he usually is from deep, but showed good range and moved along the perimeter well looking for passes from Juan or Matteo. Pesky on ball defender, managed to force a few turnovers with his pressing and poked a couple of balls out the dribble.

FIBA U16 Europe: Best Prospects
Slovenia did not have a stellar tournament at all, but there is a lot to take away for sure. Urban Klavzar already displayed how skilled he is a year before in Novi Sad, playing against 2 year older guys in a more stocked tournament. In Udine, he didn’t disappoint as he was the scoring leader of the team. However, it looked like he was much more focused on scoring on his own than creating for his teammates. Of course, it was not a great generation for Slovenia but he could have done much better in terms of involving others. It might be better to adjust our expectations from Klavzar as he looks to be an early developed player with terrific instincts but also lacking in physical departments. Hard to say he is an elite athlete or defender as well which are raising doubts upon his potential.
